No one can dismiss the need for character growth. To suggest that we do not need to grow implies that we have reached perfection. As Christians, we continually hear messages that call us to grow spiritually. Often, these sermons leave Christians pursuing growth on their own strength. The usual outcome of self-growth disillusions Christians to believe that God has dismissed us. We conclude that God must be disappointed when we do not reach our goals. This understanding does not represent His heart at all. The following study reveals God’s true nature towards us. He exclaims that in His perfect love, no fear and punishment reside (1 John 4: 15 – 17). He also reveals that nothing can separate us from His love (Romans 8: 38 – 39). In His love, He grows us laying a foundation in Christ (1 Corinthians 3: 6 – 11). He calls us to participate in the gospel of Christ by not running aimlessly (1 Corinthians 9: 23 – 27) but having our eyes fixed on Jesus (Hebrews 12:1 – 2). When our endurance fails during the race, God promises rest (Matthew 11:28) and renews our strength (Isaiah 40:31). During our victories and defeats, God remains with us providing abundance for our life (Ephesians 3:20, 2 Timothy 2:13, and Hebrews 13: 5 – 6). As we mature as Christians, God walks with us while transforming our hearts and minds to His Divine nature. Let’s not create a self-imposed burden that hinders us from embracing God’s love and promises over our lives.
